Local expertise
Plano's standard single-family districts run 7,000 to 20,000 square feet, but West Plano hides estate territory: Kings Gate lots approach two acres on the old Willow Bend polo grounds, Normandy Estates runs a quarter to 1.7 acres behind a 24-hour gate, and Willow Bend and Lakeside on Preston sit between. The right design tier depends on which West Plano you own.
Plano protects trees of 8 inches DBH and up during development and redevelopment, but existing single-family lots are exempt after initial build-out. Practically: you can reshape a 30-year-old Willow Bend landscape without permits — and the mature canopy is exactly what we design around, because it is the one thing money can't fast-forward.
Plano asks residents to water at most twice a week April through October — even addresses Monday and Thursday, odd addresses Tuesday and Friday — with no sprinklers 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and once-weekly watering in winter. Hand and soaker-hose watering is allowed daily, new landscapes get a 30-day variance, and the city runs water-conservation rebates (rain and freeze sensors and more) worth checking before an irrigation retrofit.
West Plano soil is expansive Houston Black clay — the Texas state soil — over shallow chalk in places — hard on hardscape, alkaline for plants. Beds get built up and drained, hardscape gets engineered base, and the palette is chosen for high-pH clay rather than fought against it.

Common questions
A 2D Site Plan runs $750–$2,000 for lots under about half an acre with planting-and-layout scope; photoreal 3D design starts at $2,500; Kings Gate- and Normandy-scale estates run $4,500–$7,500+ as phased master plans. The $200 on-site consultation is credited in full and design fees credit toward installation.
Renovation is West Plano's signature project: mature trees worth keeping, 1990s plantings worth retiring. We design the new landscape around the canopy, stage removals, and phase the install so the yard never looks demolished.
Not on an existing single-family lot — Plano's 8-inch tree-preservation rules apply to development and redevelopment, and homes are exempt after initial build-out. We still treat the mature canopy as the site's most valuable asset.
Plano asks for at most two watering days a week in season (even addresses Monday/Thursday, odd Tuesday/Friday), none 10 a.m.–6 p.m., once weekly in winter. We design drip-zoned beds and drought-tolerant structure so the landscape thrives inside that — and point retrofits at the city's conservation rebates.
