Designs of Eden is a landscape designer serving Allen — Twin Creeks, StarCreek, Montgomery Farm and Watters Crossing. Local expertise
Allen sits on the Blackland Prairie, and Houston Black — the Texas state soil — is expansive: it swells wet and shrinks dry, which heaves edging, cracks poorly-built hardscape, and drowns plants set at grade. We spec raised beds, compacted select-fill under hardscape, and species that tolerate clay, and we design drainage before we design planting.
Allen (an NTMWD member city) assigns two watering days per week — even addresses Monday and Thursday, odd addresses Tuesday and Friday — with no sprinkler irrigation from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April through October and one winter watering day. We design drought-tolerant structure plantings and drip-zoned beds so the yard looks finished on that schedule.
Most premium Allen lots run about a fifth to a third of an acre — Estates of Twin Creeks stretches toward an acre. At that size every square foot is in view, so we design the whole lot as one composition: sight lines from the kitchen, screening from neighbors, and turf only where it earns its place.
Allen's Land Development Code includes tree preservation provisions (§7.06). Before any removal is drawn into a plan we confirm current requirements with the city's Community Development department, so the design never depends on a tree you can't legally take out.

Most Allen lots qualify for the full ladder: a 2D Site Plan runs $750–$2,000 (lots under about half an acre, planting and layout scope), photoreal 3D design starts at $2,500, and estate-scale master plans run $4,500–$7,500+. The $200 on-site consultation is credited in full, and design fees are credited toward installation.
Plants that tolerate expansive Houston Black clay and Zone 8a heat: think native and adapted species with strong root systems, planted high, in amended and well-drained beds. The bigger answer is preparation — bed height, drainage and soil work decide success in Allen more than the plant list does.
Allen allows two assigned watering days per week (even addresses Monday/Thursday, odd Tuesday/Friday), bans sprinklers 10 a.m.–6 p.m. April through October, and drops to one day in winter. We design for that schedule with drip-irrigated beds, drought-tolerant structure plants, and turf limited to where it matters.
